The landscape is changing rapidly.

Within the first months of 2025, we have seen the third “1,000-year” climate disaster impact Appalachian communities in less than 1,000 days: The floods of 2022 impacting Eastern Kentucky and surrounding areas. The impacts of Helene. And in February, the Winter Floods of 2025, which caused severe damage across three states.

We remain as committed as always to accelerating a just Appalachian transition by convening and connecting funders for learning, analysis, and collaboration. We welcome the opportunities to continue convening funders, and making connections.

ENACT CHANGE IN APPALACHIA

The Appalachia Funders Network unites public, private, and philanthropic funders with other investors to create transformational impacts in the Appalachian region. Our unique blend of leadership, capacity building, and highly collaborative work is a formula to enact just transition for the region.

"Having the opportunity to work together on issues and learn from one another [is one of the greatest AFN benefits]. Moving big ideas forward as a cohort lightens the load of doing the work alone."

— KERRY PIGMAN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ATHENS COUNTY FOUNDATION
